How World Pharmacy works
- Tap Near me and allow location, or type a town and press Search.
- See the closest pharmacies, nearest first, with distance and direction.
- Call ahead with the phone button when a number is listed, because hours are not always up to date.
- Tap Directions to open your maps app with the pharmacy as the destination.
Where the information comes from
- Pharmacies: OpenStreetMap contributors, read live through the Overpass API (data © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL).
- Place search: OpenStreetMap Nominatim.
- Opening hours and phone numbers: shown only when a volunteer added them. They may be out of date.
Coverage differs between cities. If a pharmacy you know is missing, anyone can add it at openstreetmap.org, and it will appear here too.
Frequently asked questions
Is World Pharmacy free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no ads and no subscription. It runs in your web browser, and there is an Android app version too.
Where do the pharmacies come from?
From OpenStreetMap, the free world map that volunteers keep up to date. Coverage is very good in some cities and thin in others. If your area looks empty, use the Google Maps button under the list, which searches a different map.
Does it show if a pharmacy is open?
Only when the pharmacy’s opening hours were added to OpenStreetMap, and then we show the hours exactly as written. Many pharmacies have no hours listed, so we say nothing rather than guess. Phone ahead if it matters, especially at night or on a public holiday.
What happens to my location?
Your phone works out where you are on your own device. To find pharmacies, the coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap’s public Overpass server (and to the Nominatim search if you type a place name). They are not sent to Megastore76 and we do not store them.
Can I get directions?
Yes. Each pharmacy has a Directions button that opens your maps app (Google Maps in the browser) with the pharmacy already set as the destination.
Is this medical advice?
No. World Pharmacy only helps you find a shop. For medical advice talk to a pharmacist or doctor. In an emergency call your local emergency number straight away.
